TSOC '15 Contest 2

posted on April 16, 2015, 4:44 p.m.

April 20th, 2015. The day that Mr. Benum the CS teacher vanished into thin air. It was apparent that Mr. Benum would not be back for a while, so a replacement teacher showed up. He went by "Mr. Venom". A sketchy name, but there's more. He wasn't listed on any teacher database we hacked up; he had no online presence. Even stranger, Mr. Benum had not notified anyone of his absence. And Mr. Venom randomly applied for a job at Thornhill S.S. on the exact day that Mr. Benum disappeared.

No one suspected a thing, except for the members of the computer club. They knew that some shady dealings had occurred, and that they now had to save Mr. Benum from evil forces. Can they rescue Mr. Benum in time to celebrate on this very special day?

Help guide the young investigators rescue their teacher and defeat the evil Mr. Venom in the TSOC '15 #2 Contest!

Problems were authored this time around by gah111, omaewamoushindeiru, bobhob314, and kobortor.

The contest will run for three days starting on April 20th, 2015. You will have three hours to complete the problems. There will be six problems of increasing difficulty, along with one bonus problem.

This round will be rated for all participants.

    Hi, Max!

I saw all the problems of the contest. I loved solving them. (The ones I could, as of now, that is!) I wanted to ask you if there is any official editorial for the contest, or hints, or official solutions for the problems? If there is one, can you link me to it? If there isn't one, can you guys add that, if possible? Or, share the official, expected solutions of the problems? That will help a lot of users!

Thank you so much for a great contest, by the way.

    Regards, Arjit.

      Hi Argit,

We currently have no solutions. However, it will not be much work to write some and we'll post some on our organization page soon. Our official website may not be done for a [hopefully short!] while.

Thanks for writing the contest and stay cool,

      Max

Just a quick question regarding the contest problems. Will they be uploaded on DMOJ or will they not be?

    Thank you.

Thanks to everyone that wrote our contest!

The problem setters put a lot of work into creating it and hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks to FatalEagle, bruce and Xyene for helping with some very clutch troubleshooting!

If you would prefer that this contest be unrated for you, I am not sure what the process is but given justification, the admins should be able to do that for you.

Lastly, if you have any suggestions or comments to make for/on our contest, feel free to comment below or drop a line at bobhob314@gmail.com.

Again, thanks for this great experience,

    Max
