Aren't those 3rd place prizes already free? My math isn't checking out for the $1000 value.

4th place prize: free access to libraries, hospitals, and public education!

Also at least 1 year of regular Wolfram|Alpha for 10 lucky participants!

That page does not say anything about the estimated cash value of any of these prizes, or anything about the prizes at all. In fact if you Ctrl+F for "prize" or "1000" or "$" or nothing pops up. But what does pop up to my eyes immediately is the typo "exisiting". Sad! Please think about providing the facts instead of making an ass out of you and me. I also checked the home page, but I was greeted with the exact same list and $1000 figure shown on this dmoj webpage here.

To reiterate, what is being claimed on this dmoj post: "more than $1000 in prizes awarded to the top competitors in each division." This means that the mystery prize giveaways are irrelevant to this $1000 dollers statement. I will also assume that 1st prize doesn't doubly receive a 2nd place prize or anything like that, since the GlobexcUp homepage uses the widely known Gold/Silver/Bronze medal metaphor right above the prize listings, and in competitions such as the olympics you get the best medal you win, not the ones below it.

For 1st place: $70+$30 = $100. Not sure if this is correct though.

For 2nd place: Unfortunately the Holy Grail (aka the Details Page) does not mention anything about the length duration, but I'll let you have the more expensive options just to be nice... Wolfram Alpha Pro is $65.88 a year, Wolfram|One is $258 a year. Since Pro was used for Alpha and not Premium, I'll assume the cheaper choice for Wolfram One (though it doesn't make a bit of difference). Adds up to $323.88, *2 for both junior and senior = $647.76.

For 3rd place: Again I'm pretty sure these are free due to lack of price mentions. If the people themselves don't say how much it costs, then how could you know? As such I could safely assume they are free unlike your assumption that your website is worth reading carefully, but I've also found outside sources and historical evidence.

Based on the trends of the past, cuHacking is free.

Best of all, cuHacking is totally free! Plus food and swag will be provided.

And from the TOHacks 2019 Facebook:

Q5: Is there a participation fee? A5: No mandatory fee is needed! We will be providing free food, drinks, and snacks! Feel free to bring in some extra cash if you would like to purchase more food from elsewhere.

        And from the starterhacks cofounder:

Looking for a great #BlackFriday2018 deal? @starterhacks is free for all to attend. Applications open now at

Unless the prize includes transit and/or getting a limo ride, which again the details page makes no mention of.

So here we have an estimated $747.76 in prizes. Wowie! I don't know what your numbers are but at least I checked my facts and cited my sources, in contrast your website doesn't tell me anything and your comment even less so. I just wanted to know something and all you did was talk down to the little guy. Shameful display

I like how the majority of the prize pool is allocated for those who get second place. Hopefully this is wrong and/or changed, or else we might end up with a contest where everyone is waiting for someone else to submit.

Aren't there prizes as giveaways on livestream too? I think the organizers of globex cup prob included that in the calculation.

$1000 in prizes awarded to the top competitors

Apparently winning the giveaway prizes means you're a top competitor?

What are the constraints on writing the junior? Is there anything in place to prevent high-rated people from just smurfing on the junior?

This week's Lotto 649 prize is an estimated $17 million, why not go for that instead? $17,000,000 > $70 > $30

        Edit: "17 million dollars dollars"
